Hearing, is what we do everyday, unconsiously.
Listening, however, is not something we do unconsiously everyday. Unless, of course, you don't KNOW that you're listening because you don't KNOW about listening, but of course, most people DO know that they're listening.
When you're sick, you don't hear very well, like how I'm feeling now. What sick people feel and hear are completely different from what someone perfectly healthy hears. A sick person listens to his or her body's needs and wants, to put it out in a technical sort of way. A sick person can only hear his or her body going "I want to sleep NOW." or "I'm so tired, let me just flop down onto the bed.". And actually, I'm not really listening to my body now, but I know perfectly well what it's saying, "I want to go to the washroom NOW!!!"
From what I see, listening to our body is just like how we take critism or listen to our paerents, when they tell us something we don't want to hear, like telling us we did a bad job or asking us to study, we'll naturally try to shut them out. Truth to be told, how many of us has ALWAYS followed our parents advice and orders or taken critisms without that evil thought in the head saying "Yeesh, yaada, yaada, yaada, i know, you don't HAVE to tell me."? Nobody, I'm sure. All of us have this rebellious nature in us to rebel in some way or another, openly or in our own heads. It might be my own perception, but still, I'm guessing it's true for most. For example, a smoker would definitely know that his or her body would tell him or her to quit smoking as it knows what smoking can do to his or her body with frequent smoking, but the smoker would smoke, regardless of his or her own's body advice, due to peer pressure or just that rebellious nature telling him or her to DO IT. However, when someone tells us something that we WANT to hear, for example, "Hey! You did a good job!" or "Come, lets go eat some ice-cream!"(random yes, but this is just for an example. Ice-cream is good!!!), we'll naturally listen to them. It's human nature! We listen to what we WANT to hear, not what we DON'T want to listen to.
Hmm, after critisizing humans and well, myself so much, i guess I'll just listen to my body now and go to the toilet. *big smile*
